How I Met Your Mother tells the story of Ted Mosby's attempts to find his soulmate. The setup is that this is Ted retelling the complete story to his children in 2030. His search invovled plenty of misadventures and false steps. The show usually tends to focus more on the actions of his circle of friends as they all try to live out their dreams.
Ted Mosby is the narrator of the story. He was inspired to begin to actively search for the woman of his dreams after his best friend Marshall gets engaged. Ted is an upcoming architect who seems to always say or do the wrong thing and ruin a date. Marshall is Ted's best friend. He has a somewhat shaky relationship with Lily, and they've had their share of breakups of mistakes. Marshall is a great friend to Ted and he is always in Ted's corner. Lily is Marshall's girlfriend and eventually fiance. She is Robin's partner-in-crime and friend, and she resorts to some interesting tactics to get what she wants. Robin is Ted's friend, but he has a huge crush on her. She is a reporter at the local news station, but no one actually watches the segments that she does. Barney is the lady's man of the group. He is a terrible womanizer who often ends up stealing women from Ted.
This great sitcom has continued to please it's fan over the short time frame that it has existed. The first season was pure magic and the second season continues to please long-time fans. The sheer chemistry and interactivity among the characters provides countless laughs each episode.
